How KKR's vice-captain made RR pay for a dropped catch in a thrilling finish.
Kolkata Knight Riders finally broke their losing streak with a nail-biting win over Rajasthan Royals, chasing down 156 with just two balls to spare. The match, held at Eden Gardens on April 19, showcased a masterclass in pressure batting, led by Rinku Singh, who finished unbeaten on 53. The stage was set when Nandre Burger dropped a simple catch off Ravindra Jadeja, allowing Rinku to turn the game around alongside Anukul Roy, as they forged a stunning 76-run partnership.
Rajasthan’s innings was a tale of missed opportunities and tight bowling. Despite a promising start with an 81-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the Royals faltered, finishing on 155/9. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy were the architects of KKR’s success, strangling RR with their spin magic, as Chakaravarthy’s 3/14 earned him the Player of the Match award. Kartik Tyagi also shone, picking up three wickets in a single over to cap off a brilliant performance.
Riyan Parag, RR’s captain, lamented the dropped catches and acknowledged that they fell short on a pitch he believed was worth 170 runs. On the flip side, KKR’s Ajinkya Rahane praised the grit of his players and the electric atmosphere created by their fans. With this victory, KKR not only gained confidence but also sent a message that they are not to be underestimated anymore.
