CSK legend Badrinath calls for a leadership change amidst poor form.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in a tailspin, sitting 7th in the IPL 2026 table after losing four of their six matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy is under scrutiny, with former CSK batter Subramanium Badrinath advocating for Sanju Samson to take the reins. Badrinath believes the pressure of leadership is affecting Gaikwad's batting, as he's managed only 82 runs in six innings with a dismal average of 13.67.
Badrinath didn't hold back, stating, 'Ruturaj needs to start firing. Six matches is a lot when you're opening and failing.' He pointed out that while Gaikwad's captaincy showed some promise in the SRH game, he hasn't stepped up in crucial run-chases. The former pro suggested that removing Gaikwad from captaincy duties could relieve some pressure and allow him to refocus on his batting.
Adding to CSK's woes, they are grappling with injuries, including MS Dhoni's absence, which Badrinath highlighted as a critical factor in their struggles. He expressed that Dhoni's presence, even in a limited capacity, would bring invaluable experience during tense moments. As CSK prepares to face the Mumbai Indians, the question remains: will the management heed the call for change?
