Delhi Capitals' captain set to return for crucial clash against SRH.
Delhi Capitals' captain Axar Patel gave fans a serious scare during their IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After looking solid with 26 runs off 19 balls, Axar suddenly succumbed to calf cramps and had to retire hurt, leaving the DC dugout in a state of panic. Thankfully, after their hard-fought six-wicket victory, DC's Director of Cricket, Venugopal Rao, eased the tension, declaring it was just cramps and Axar is expected to be fit for the upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 21.
Despite his injury woes, Axar’s season has been a mixed bag. He’s struggled with the bat, mustering only 29 runs in five matches, but his bowling has been a different story, with five wickets to his name and an economy rate hovering around 7.5. His standout performance against RCB showcased his potential, and with the right support from his coaching staff, including head coach Hemang Badani, he’s been urged to keep pushing through the tough patches.
The Delhi camp is rallying behind Axar, with his captaincy also under the microscope. While he’s been working hard in the nets, it’s clear that a little boost from his teammates has made a difference. As Rao noted, sometimes a bit of encouragement is all it takes to bounce back. With Axar set to return, all eyes will be on him to deliver in the next clash. Can he regain his form and lead DC to victory against SRH?
